Hemp oil capsules: all you need to know

Hemp oil capsules: all you need to know

When most people hear the word ‘hemp,’ they think of marijuana and cannabis. Until recently, many CBD companies used the term ‘hemp oil’ on their CBD products. Now, more companies are being careful to differentiate their products to avoid problems with the FDA.

The important thing is not to confuse hemp seed oil with CBD oil or hash oil, the THC-containing oil made from the cannabis flower. The truth is that only one contains CBD, and we’re going to break it all down for you.

What are hemp oil capsules?

Hemp itself is a raw material, much like cotton or wood. The seeds are ground for their oil and the seed cake that remains after this process is used in pet food and body care products, and now can be used in human food.

Hemp oil, also known as hemp seed oil, is obtained by pressing hemp seeds. The pure form of hemp oil (cold pressed, unrefined) is a nutritious health supplement that can be added to foods or manufactured into capsules.

Hemp oil capsules vs. CBD oil capsules

While hemp oil capsules come from the seeds of the hemp plant, CBD oil is extracted from the stalks, stems, and flowers using a more high-tech process. CBD oil has been found to interact with your body’s own endocannabinoid system, which is responsible for maintaining homeostasis. CBD oil capsules work by stimulating your body’s endocannabinoid receptors, which are located throughout your nervous system and immune system. When CBD binds with these receptors,  it can provide powerful benefits that include pain and inflammation relief.

Hemp oil capsules, on the other hand, are strictly a nutritional supplement. They’re popular because they deliver a good dose of essential fatty acids. The excellent balance of omega 3s and 6s in hemp seed oil supports healthy tissue repair, cardiovascular health, and the maintenance of strong hair, skin and nails. These are some of the most important fatty acids required for healthy cell membranes and cell renewal.

Benefits of hemp oil capsules

  • Contain omega 3 and omega 6, two important essential fatty acids that promote cell renewal
  • Reduces inflammation and supports hormonal balance
  • Ratio of omega 3 and 6 in hemp seed oil is 1:3, which is considered in the optimal range
  • Contains gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which helps promote skin hydration and elasticity
  • GLA also boosts fat loss, energy production, and increases energy
  • Contains oleic acid, which can help with reducing ‘bad’ cholesterol levels

Benefits of CBD oil capsules

Although CBD is most often taken as a tincture, CBD oil capsules are steadily increasing in popularity around the world. They have several key benefits:

  • Powerful anti-inflammatory effects that help to reduce pain and inflammation
  • Aids relaxation of smooth muscle, relieving muscle tension and spasms
  • May help protect nerve cells from damage caused by inflammation or trauma
  • Can be used to effectively manage pain, anxiety, and stress disorders
  • Unlike THC (one of the other phytocannabinoids in cannabis), CBD oil doesn’t make you ‘high’
  • Easy to take and lacks the side effects of pharmaceutical medication

Buying hemp or CBD oil capsules? Read the label

When you’re shopping for hemp oil or CBD oil capsules, your best bet to be able to tell the difference is to carefully read the labels and ingredients. Hemp seed oil capsules should be made from raw, organic, unrefined hemp seed oil.

Most CBD products will list the ingredients as being whole plant extract. This is usually CBD isolate or CBD distillate. The label may also say whether it’s full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, or PCR (phytocannabinoid-rich). For quality CBD products, including capsules, you should be able to find third-party testing results to verify their purity.

To sum up: hemp oil capsules are not the same as CBD oil capsules. They come from the seeds of the hemp plant and do not contain any CBD.
