While most people agree on the health benefits of CBD, opinions on its taste may vary. CBD oil has quite an earthy taste, which some describe as nutty or grassy. While some people like it, others prefer to cover the taste with other flavours. That’s why CBD edibles like CBD cookies are popular—they combine the delicious taste of cookies with the wellness advantages of CBD.
But CBD cookies aren’t just for people who don’t like the taste of CBD oil. Edibles have numerous benefits due to the way the CBD enters your body. And another great thing about CBD cookies is that you can make them yourself at home, which we will outline how to do later in this article.
What is CBD?
CBD is currently a buzzword in the world of wellness. There is a wide variety of CBD products that can help manage the symptoms of specific ailments while also encouraging a generally healthy lifestyle. The scientific community continues research into the medical benefits of CBD—and yet despite its ever-growing popularity, some people still don’t know what CBD really is.
CBD is short for cannabidiol, one of the many compounds of the cannabis plant (THC is another well-known one). But while THC is psychoactive and gives you a feeling of being high, CBD does not. It does, however, have the same relaxation and balancing qualities that can support the health of your body.
There are many forms of CBD, allowing it to be easily infused into different products. CBD tinctures hold CBD oil, which is possibly the most well-known way of consuming CBD. Most people do so by placing a drop of the oil beneath their tongue. ButCBD also comes in creams, salves, and gels, which can be applied externally to the skin. It comes in the form of edibles, too—often sold as gummies, sweets, or lollipops. Different ways of consuming CBD can have different effects. For example, directly applying CBD cream to your skin has a more localized impact than consuming it through a lollipop. Factors like the speed of delivery and lasting time of its effects will also vary.
And, of course, CBD also comes in the form of CBD oil cookies.
Benefits of CBD edibles
Edibles (like cookies) enter the body differently than oil, which you take sublingually, or skin creams, which are for external use only. When you eat an item containing CBD, it must go through your digestive system before entering your bloodstream, and therefore does so at a slower rate. This means it takes longer for you to feel the impact—perhaps 1–2 hours. But it also means that the effects last longer, for around 3–4 hours. As with all CBD products, CBD cookies have multiple health benefits. Here are some of them.
CBD has been shown to help both musculoskeletal and nerve pain. The long-lasting effects of CBD cookies can be particularly useful for people suffering from chronic pain conditions like arthritis. This means it isn’t necessary to consume CBD consistently throughout the day—only every four hours or as needed. CBD is also an anti-inflammatory. Since inflammation is the cause of a lot of pain, minimizing the inflammation can greatly reduce pain and soothe the muscles and joints.
CBD is a relaxing agent; it tells your body to be calm. This can be great for anxiety as both the body and mind are encouraged to relax. You feel less powered by adrenaline and its fight or flight response, and instead feel simply more mellow. While consuming CBD should be balanced with a healthy diet and exercise to help handle anxiety, it is certainly a contributing factor to feeling less anxious. For these same reasons, many people turn to CBD products to help treatother mental health issues like depression and insomnia. Because the effects of CBD oil cookies can last for about 4 hours, they can be particularly useful for people struggling to sleep.
Improving skin health
CBD has been shown to help control many common and more rare skin conditions. For example, it can reduce acne breakouts through its anti-inflammatory properties. It also helps to regulate the amount of oil in your skin and reduce the clogging of pores. Its antioxidant qualities can play a role in repairing damaged skin and moisturizing to allow a healthier glow. Other skin conditions that CBD may help include eczema and psoriasis.
